HSC Training Site

Wow, I'm the only one that writes on this thing!

Refer to ticket #332392. The HSC put up a new web site (http://training.health.ufl.edu/) that uses Gatorlink authentication. The client must first click on "create account" on the left and then attempt to log in. But since the web site is so new, the health science center says they may have some bugs. The contact person in this case is:
itcsupport@health.ufl.edu.

VPN for Mac (Intel/PPC)

CNS has discovered that for the VPN Dialier for Mac, if the client doesn't disable their firewall, they will not be able to gain a connection through it. I tried this on my Mac and they were right! So clients using VPN for Mac that can't get a connection should disable their firewall.

COX email settings

We had some clients call into today with laptops who didnt like the idea of having to change their mail settings everytime they left home. Another option for outgoing mail settings for COX is to change the port to 587 and to change the security to TLS. Keep the server smtp.ufl.edu. If a client does this they will not need to change their settings if the use another internet besides COX.

No Pop email checking for CLAS email addresses

CLAS (Liberal Arts and Sciences) email users who try to use POP (Eudora may be the client) will not be able to this morning. We should route them to their CLASNET contact:

Outgoing Server - COX

It seems like COX recently made a switch in their outgoing settings. Clients unable to send mail through smtp.ufl.edu should try smtp.east.cox.net. This has worked for everyone I've spoken to.

COX Connections

Tech backups, you should be aware of this!

If a user on COX cannot access any UF sites, try the following:

1. Have the user check their windows ip address. If it begins with 72.xx.xx.xx, they need to reboot their cable modem. The 72.xx.xx.xx is for Cox digital telephones.
2. After a reboot, have the user recheck the new ip address. The correct address should begin with 24.xx.xx.xx (or some other address besides 72.xx.xx.xx).
3. If the user is not savvy enough to check their ip, you can skip steps 1 and 2 and just have them reboot the modem by disconnecting and reconnecting the power.

This is just a workaround until they find some solution.

POP Servers

It seems the POP servers are having some trouble. I heard that this morning there were calls regarding a group of people that were told to use "ufl.edu" instead of "pop.ufl.edu" for their incoming servers and this caused up to 3 hours worth of consults. Just a heads up if there are any more pop calls.

DHNet

There were some problems with DHNet over the weekend and this morning. I called Will Saxon and he looked into it. Apparently, they entered in all the summer term dorm assignments and saved it over the spring term, so they erased registrations. As of now, he said it shoudl take about 30 minutes to fix, so hopefully the calls will stop.
The dorm residents were getting limited or no connectivity with a 169 IP.

AB emails

AB email queue is flooded with a spam email that keeps sending. I emailed Adam to please take care of it, but wanted to let you all know!
